Iron Butt Mississippi, the Henderson way

MS Iron Butt 2018

February 2022

Event Committee Info:

  • Alan is asking for more ideas of fun rides or weekend trips we can make.
  • Cookeville TN?
  • Mount Nebo AR?
  • Boudin Run?
  • Dauphin Island
  • The 82 N 1 is in place.
  • The Mississippi Blues trail is another quest we are doing.
  • Mississippi 1000 N 24 (1,000 miles in 24 hours all in MS)
  • The Blues Trail and the 82 N 1 will be staple events that will always be available.
  • It has been determined that the events should be in several categories. – Short weekend or day rides. The are many Festivals starting up in spring and Alan or anyone that wants can announce and lead. The Juke Joint festival, Catfish festival, A ride to Mardi Gras parade, The strawberry festival and many more. Let the group know and you can make it an event. The Boudin run.
  • Long rides such as a 7-10 day ride to the MOA rally in Springfield MO. Yes it may only be 600 or so miles but it is really about the ride there and Back. For example, Alan and Laurissa are going and anyone is welcome to join the ride. We do not have a route yet but one “crazy” idea I have is to ride to Chicago to the start of route 66. Then take a lazy ride down to Springfield. There is a great drive in movie that is updated and is on route 66 in Carthage MO jut 50 or so miles from Springfield. Another option that would be fantastic is up through AR for several nights and making day rides. One Member is going to make a two day ride to Eureka Springs and then spend time there before heading on out. Alan and Laurissa may do both of those for a really, really great time.

For info on any these e-mail Alan at hendersonal@att.net

Cajun Coast Ride

Cajun Coast Ride November 1,2 and 3 -2019

Leave out on Friday 11-1-19 and will return on Sunday 11-3-19
NOTICE everyone obviously cannot meet us in Madison!!!!!!!!!!
So we will make Natchez and also Baton Rouge as stops so we can meet riders there. As the time gets closer will send out more info with locations and times. This should make it easy.

• Day 1, Friday 11-1-19. Leave out from Madison, Fleetway gas station at the corner of main and Hwy 51,KSU (kick stand up) at 8:00 am headed out to Grand Island LA.
While checking on accommodations we were asked why we were coming. We told them
we were bringing a group of motorcycle riders. They all said they had never had a group
like that before and wanted to know what the attraction was because most just come to
fish. When we told them just because and that most had never been to Grand Isle. They
thought it was great.
Head south and will cross the border at Natchez. Head down the back roads to Morganza, New Roads, down Hwy 77 and on in to Grand Isle. About 375 + miles and 7 – 8 hours of riding. Grand Isle is a cool place and is known mostly for fishing. It is somewhat “crusty” but the people, food and drink are memorable.
• Day 2, Saturday 11-2-19 KSU at 8:00am and we are headed to Port Arthur TX along the Cajun Coast. Headed out on the back roads toward Houma, Morgan City, Avery Island ( home of tobacco and if wanted we can take a tour and then eat lunch at their restaurant.) then on through Pecan Island on Hwy 82 to Port Arthur. About 325 miles and 7 hours of riding. Notice: be aware of your fuel range because once you reach the coast, gas could be hard to find.
• Day 3, Sunday 11-3-19. Time to head home. Leesville, Alexandra, Ferriday, Tallulah, Vicksburg, Edwards, Flora, Madison. About 370 miles and 7 hours of riding.

Lodging:
Grand Isle – Cajun Holiday Motel – 1737 Holiday Drive, Grand Isle -985-258-9911
( Ms Millie is holding 6 rooms for us under the name of Laurissa Henderson. 3 are already gone. She has more rooms but these are a block that are all together. Also know that this place is set up for fishing. Some of the rooms have a queen bed with 2 bunk beds so if you have a friend that could be an option.)

Port Arthur– Hampton Inn – 7660 memorial Blvd, Port Arthur TX – 409-722-6999

Notice: all of this info is computer generated. That means that time and miles are based on best estimates. My experience is that I can normally best those times but REMEMBER the key word is riding time. You will have to add in all breaks. At the end of the day that could be a additional 1.5 hours. So plan for full days of riding. HEY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Weather cooperating, I promise you a GREAT time. And if we are lucky we will not meet David Pell’s friend that patrols Hwy 65 in LA.
Also If you want you can take the car and bring the wife or other.
